Revolutionizing local transportation
BLESSING IN DISGUISE
In the spring of 2020, when Markku Laatikainen, who later founded Arctic Rides Oy, acquired an electric scooter, he had no idea that a fall on that icy road would lead to something bigger. It was that moment that gave rise to the idea for Skicki – an electric vehicle suitable for year-round use that would also meet the demands of Nordic conditions.
After a few idea sketches, Marku and the enthusiastic founding team gathered around the subject brought the first Skick prototype to life. It was the answer to a problem for which there were few solutions: a safe, accessible and cost-effective electric vehicle developed for local transportation in all seasons.
In 2021, we launched Skicki, and since then we have sold hundreds of Skicki to businesses and consumers.
NEW STRATEGY
In the summer of 2024, Lasse Keronen took the helm to take the company to the next stage. Lasse brought with him experience in commercializing businesses and began to lead the company towards a new strategy – focusing especially on companies with critical local mobility needs.
Lasse raised the question: “What problem does Skick solve better than any other solution?” This question led us to test Skick with different target groups, to deepen our customer understanding and to be able to target sales more precisely based on the added value produced.
We conducted tests in different industries and learned that companies operating in industry and cities are actively looking for safe and cost-effective ways to get around. In tourism services, the emphasis was on productizing distinctive and accessible services to attract international customers.
Skick's strengths – safety, cost-effectiveness, ease of use and responsibility – proved time and again to be decisive factors when assessing its suitability for developing local mobility for companies.
That's why our strategy today is based on the fact that Skick is safer for companies than walking. It is also the most cost-effective, accessible and responsible way to solve the challenges of local mobility. After all, it is many times cheaper than a car to buy and more accessible to use. Compared to two-wheelers, Skick is safer, more versatile, easier to use and has lower life-cycle costs.
Special added value in professional use
HIGH DEGREE OF DOMESTICITY
Skicki is developed and manufactured in Finland for domestic and international needs. Our headquarters is located in Kuopio, and our partner in Ostrobothnia assembles the Skicki. It is important to us to support Finnish expertise, and although our sights are on the world, we are proud that our product has received the Key Flag as a sign of a high degree of domesticity.
